I created this piece as I was discovering a new chapter in life. New to the city, I was evolving. I had new desires growing in my heart, and I was shedding the layers that I no longer needed. I was bursting in my internal state, yet quiet and still externally. Healing, protecting, nourishing, expanding. Of course I can only see this now in hindsight. At the time I was working on this, as many artists will recount, I wasn’t sure what it all meant yet. I just knew to follow my instinctual urge to listen to my heart, put the paint onto the canvas and see what appears.

This depiction of myself, rather vulnerable, is hung fittingly in my bathroom.
